SPEAKER_00:

Hey everybody, and welcome to this episode of Bible Bros and Brew. It's our last episode of the season, so we thought we'd take a look back at some of the things that we've talked about, tackle any questions that might come through the chat, and just generally reminisce about how good God has been this year, and maybe even look ahead to what could be for 2026. Up next. With me is Philip, Ryan, and John doing strange gang signals at the screen with his fingers. So is Philip. Except his fingers are just normally twisted up like that. So we're so glad that you joined us uh for this episode of Bible Bros and Brew. Tonight we're gonna spend some time taking a look back over some of the things that we've talked about, um, and just generally kind of reminisce, if you will, over the last season of Bible Bros and Brew. And then we're going to stop and maybe even just talk about some of the things we may want to do in the future. And uh we want to hear from you too. For those of you who are watching the live stream or connected to the live stream, feel free to use the chat functionality function in on your screen, and you can shoot us a question if you have one. And uh we'd love to hear from you and take any questions that you may have while we're doing this particular episode. But before we do that, we've got to talk about what's in the cup. Uh, we'll start over with you, John. What's in your cup?

SPEAKER_04:

To to keep things simple. Um I've been drinking, well, thinking about this past year. Uh I've been also thinking about the next year, and it's got me thinking about roots, it's got me wearing funny hats today. And so today I pulled out a tea that uh my family would normally drink. It's just a simple peppermint tea, uh, a nice little nutcracker mug just to kind of keep the Christmas spirit going. But it's a peppermint tea, just a little bit of white chocolate, a little bit of honey. Um, and it's just Christmas in a cup, but it's not like gonna make you jump on the walls, you know what I mean? Like it's just it's supposed to keep you calm, keep you relaxed, and just lets you roll right into that Christmas season. It's beautiful, it's great.

SPEAKER_00:

Sorry. Make sure you pull your hand back to your face.

SPEAKER_03:

Oh, okay.

SPEAKER_00:

While you're doing that, uh Ryan, what's going on with you? What's in your cup?

SPEAKER_02:

Oh boy, oh boy, are you guys in for a treat? Um, in my Yeti cup, I've got um the holiday spirit, um, the Christmas blend of Christmas blends, the gingerbread man, the Christmas tree, the sparkling lights, the um presents, the family, the ham turkey all in a cup, known as tap water.

SPEAKER_03:

I'm speechless.

SPEAKER_00:

I mean, what do we have? What can we say?

SPEAKER_04:

It's tap water and a lot of imagination in one cup.

SPEAKER_02:

Look, I've had three cups of coffee earlier today. If I do another one, I'm liable to do unlook godly things.

SPEAKER_04:

Oh, this episode already went sideways. You might as well have had that fourth cup, right?

SPEAKER_00:

Oh my goodness. Philip, how about you? Hopefully, you can save us with something interesting and exciting.

SPEAKER_03:

I think I might have just the thing for tonight, man. Um, Peregrine always releases a Christmas coffee at the end of the year, and it's called Sangre de Christmas. Um, it's got notes of snickerdoodle, juniper, and chocolate. And uh, this is this is oh man, it's just so good. Uh, it's named after the sangre de Cristo forest, which uh is like right near where Peregrine is in Colorado. And so you have to I we had to actually drive through that forest, it's like a national forest to get to Peregrine, just like this, kind of like seeing the guru on the mountaintop kind of experience, man. It's pretty pretty wild. So um, but yeah, the coffee is excellent, dude. Sangre de Christmas for everyone who would like to try something, it's awesome.

SPEAKER_00:

I I am slightly um interested to know what juniper tastes like, as as I am as well.

SPEAKER_03:

I'm actually not sure, but but but it's delicious when it's combined with the other recognizable flavors. So but uh how about you, David? What do you got in your cup, man?

SPEAKER_00:

Well, today, in my in my the joy of the lord is my strength. Come on, I bought back a good old favorite, the double chocolate from Jim's organic. Um that light is bright. What god Jesus, it's got the glory on it. On that side, this coffee does have the glory. I'm gonna call it the hot chocolate version, the coffee version of hot chocolate with a little extra heavy whipping cream in it, uh, just to give a little bit more creamier side to it, and it's terribly flavorful and an enjoyable cup to have the conversation we're going to have tonight.

SPEAKER_03:

Hopefully, that's money in the bank.

SPEAKER_00:

So that's what's in the cup, and now on to uh taking a look back, you know. Um, at first when I talked to the guys about doing this, you know, one of the things I said, you know, it's just think back over the year and let's talk about what we talked about that really just that stood out to you. And then as I went back and looked over what we'd done, this whole year we've only done four series. When we started the year, the first series we started on morphed into the first half of the year. So from January to June, we were pretty caught up in one series, but we covered so much ground in it, and that series was walking in the spirit, and uh in that in that series, uh, we came from a couple of different places. Um, we were talking about Romans 6, 7, and 8, you know, at that time. Then we switched over and we started talking about Galatians um and the whole works of the flesh versus the fruit of the spirit, and that's really where the bulk of it came from because we began to break down each of the works of the flesh, each of the fruits of the spirit. Um, something that stands out to me. Um, I don't know what stands out to you guys about that series, but one thing that does is um learning about the different groupings of the works of the flesh, and how the different groups of them uh you know were this were of similar nature, yeah, and were speaking to us about you know sexual immorality, idolatry, and you know, different variations of the same thing. Um, I thought that was pretty fascinating uh when we came across that during that during that time. So I'll open it up for you guys. What what didn't that walking in the spirit series kind of stood out to you or made a difference for you?

SPEAKER_03:

Who would like to go first? I'll go first. Yeah, um, we gotta film. Um no, just um I like the I like being able to break the word down. I I've been always been a big fan of just taking your time and looking at the definitions of each of the words we went over, like from the works of the flesh. Some of the stuff I had never really thought about before and never you know looked deep enough into before, and then seeing how each of those things listed, you know, was a lot more far-reaching than you would think. Um, you know, with the idolatry, witchcraft, hatred variants, you know, because I didn't know what emulations was. When I saw that in the King James, I was like, what the heck is emulation? You know, things like that. It was helpful to take time to look at each one of those words, which we did, and just kind of get better feel for what it's all about. And then we switched over to the fruit of the spirit and defined each of those. And it was just um to me, it was loaded with like good information, but also revelation, uh, as well. So um yeah, the the the time we took to break down each concept, each term, and look up the Greek and all the things like that, I think was super helpful.

SPEAKER_00:

So yeah, I I agree, Philip. Uh uh what about you guys, John or Philip? I know I know it's different because we did a lot of the talking about it, and Ryan, you did some of it. Um, so I know it probably is different, different for us. Um but anything stand out to you guys?

SPEAKER_02:

No, I really agreed with what you said, you know, breaking out the categories of the flesh. Um I've never really got got into that and didn't really realize that there was a pattern there. Um, but I thought that was really insightful and and helpful.

SPEAKER_04:

Stuff I wanna I will add this kind of segues into the next podcast that we started right after. Um, but a major component when it comes to walking in the flesh that I was just it's not really based off of how you feel. Because you go based off of what you feel like doing and when you feel like worshiping and when you feel like talking to God. It's not really, you know, not really going to cultivate a good relationship with Him, but something that kind of stood out to me was especially when we talked about the fruits, talking about peace and joy. It's not something that you just feel, it's something that you just have um when walking with the Lord. Um and that at least you know, back from that became one of the things that stood out to me in the next series that we had, which uh carried over into um what was it called? Yeah, kind of keep them falling, kind of keep from falling. Um which kind of led to like this next I guess next the next step in my relationship with the Lord, which was relying on him more for everything than to just try to figure it all out for myself, you know, especially when it comes to battling my own flesh. Like I I I don't know how it is for y'all. I've it could be the same, but for me, I know it's so easy to deceive myself and be like, if I just do this much more, if I just did this, and if I just tried a little bit harder, um, I could just I I would stop this habit. I'd break this habit, I'd stop this sin. It would just go away if I just did this. And I catch myself in the cycle of like just going back and forth of like, you know, well, if I mess up, if I if I stop doing this, I'll eventually get over this sin. And uh the a major factor is to just like kind of leave that be and leave that to God, uh, and relying on him for for redemption, for for salvation instead of just trying to figure it out on my own. Um, yeah, and then the peace and then the joy comes, and everything else kind of follows suit after that. Um that's a major thing that stood out to me while we were talking about it.

SPEAKER_00:

Love that another thing that came up in that walking in the spirit series was that kind of key phrase, and it is if you walk in the spirit and you will not fulfill the lust of the the or the appetite, the lust or the appetite of the flesh. And I remember we talked about that we do have a responsibility to make a conscious decision whether we're gonna walk in the flesh or whether we're gonna walk in the spirit, and we talked about the benefits of walking in the spirit, and that one other thing that stands out to me is um, and it was it was part of something that I think God was already working on to make an adjustment in my life, and it was really kind of spending that time with the fruit of the spirit and kind of seeing it for what it was, and it caused me to be more thoughtful about the daily consideration of the fruit of the spirit. I hadn't gotten perfect about it, um, because every time I start reading something, I get thoughtful about it. But at that time it was really, really at the forefront of the mind and just this sense because it was the combination of walking in the fruit of the spirit, and then when we came up and talked about first Peter 5, or was it second first or second Peter 5, um, and started talking about the virtues, those two things kind of ran together for me. So that was a very interesting time. But as as John also said, we then moved on to uh how to keep from falling, and you know, it was it was uh that was uh it wasn't very long, it was a shorter series that we did, but nonetheless it was potent because kind of the objective was to help people to see that you don't have to fall. Yeah, that you you know that you're making choices every day that are positioning you to fall, and that there are other options, other choices to be made to keep you from falling, and there's a lifestyle that we can live, a pattern of living that will also help us to avoid some of the pitfalls that uh can go along with people's lives. Anything for you, Philip, about that spirit, that spirit, that series. Uh yeah.

SPEAKER_03:

That was, I mean, I I don't want to necessarily name a favorite, but that was probably my favorite one that we've done this year, to be honest. Like, because we went through the second peter passage in 2 Peter 1, and we just broke down all the things that he said that you're you're to add to your faith, you know. And and to me, like I think we we mentioned this too on several of the episodes. When you first get born again, you know, you are you know you have this idea of okay, I know I don't need to be doing the things I used to do. You know, like if you used to party, you used to sleep around, do do drugs, drink, whatever you're doing on it, you know. Um, you know that now that you're a believer, those things are probably gonna have to fall off sooner or later. And so sadly, a lot of people that you know in their in their first phases of their walk with God, they're more focused on all the things that they can't do or should no longer be doing or that they need to get rid of, you know, and so but they don't really have a vision for where they're going once that stuff's kind of out of the picture or while you're getting it out of the picture. But then 2 Peter 1 comes and says, Hey, you know, here's things to add to your faith, right? He's like, uh, here's things to actively pursue instead of just worrying about abstain from this sin, don't do that thing. You know, instead, let me redirect your focus on things that you should be working on and developing, and that's where we get, you know, virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, godliness, brotherly, kindness, and love. I think was the other one. Um not nine of them, but um or seven. I don't have no anyway. Point being, you know, he gives us something to shoot for, and I think that's vital, man. Like that way, you're you're not just in a vacuum or in a void once you come into the things of God, into the kingdom. Now you have something to aim at, and so um, and as we studied each one, it was to me, it was like, yes, you know, this is the kind of stuff that that believers need to kind of fix their hearts and minds on to keep them on the right path, right? And they're building blocks too, yeah, yeah, absolutely building blocks. I love that because it's true. It's like it's a building block to better character as a believer. That's one of the biggest things. Because once you've got that character developed in those virtues that Peter talked about, uh, you'll naturally enter into that God-given destiny.

SPEAKER_00:

So you gotta we need to put we need to put hashtag stack them straight on this one, you know. One of the ver we we looked at uh we covered so much scripture in this one, but one of the things that stands out to me is that um this concept that was in verse three, really, God has given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness through the knowledge of him that called us to glory in virtue, and we begin to realize that the blessings and promises of God all are and this this lifestyle and even the access to these virtues were wrapped up in the knowledge of him, and so it pushed us to recognize that we have a part of the responsibility that is that kind of walks right alongside of these seven virtues in. Is that we have to know him.

SPEAKER_03:

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00:

And so it pushes us back into the Bible, back into the word, back into our study time to make sure that we spend time with him so that we could get to know him through his word. And that the knowledge of him through his word opens the door to so much other good stuff in our lives. And um that I love digging into that. Um, and then also the warning at the end that he that lacks these things is blind in verse 9 and cannot see afar off, and has forgotten that he was purged from his old sins. Wherefore, the rather brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you shall never fall. And that was the thrust of what we were working through during that time. If you do these things, the Bible gives us this assurance that we will never fall. Good stuff, Ryan and John. Anything in that series stand out to you?

SPEAKER_02:

Yeah, I guess um, just how practical. Like sometimes living for God can seem so unattainable and far out and just uh unimaginable that it's like, well, I just you know, it's like uh I always am gonna fail. Uh you know, that's what I know, and that's that's what I'm expecting. But yeah, I just thought that series really just made it practical and um just you know, just made it something that was tangible. You know, if you've never lived for God, it you know, you could. Um it is doable and it's uh not as hard or far out as you might think.

SPEAKER_00:

Agreed, that's good, Ryan. How about you, John?

SPEAKER_04:

No, I'm on the same page, like it's it's just encouraging because kind of what um Uncle Phil, what you said earlier a few minutes ago, like how people looks look at the Bible like like this standard, and basically all they I mean that's what the Bible says is that there's a standard that nobody measures up to, but most people just kind of stop reading at that point. Um that's this is like a vital part where you can actually like you can hear it from God telling him telling you that actually like there it's not it's not that difficult. It's I mean, it's not that complicated, really. You you like it really just boils down to like knowing God, and yeah, I just I agree with Ryan, like it's very encouraging, uh, just to know that it's it's nothing too crazy, truly. Good stuff, good stuff, John.

SPEAKER_00:

That's good. So that that led us in to I'm gonna say my the beginning of my favorite series of the year, which was Pride and Humility. Um, there's just to me, there was just one layer of goodness after another layer of goodness after another layer of goodness after another layer of goodness. Come on now, in that particular series, and it was lasagna, it was a lasagna series, yeah, revelation lasagna. It was for me because it's the series that God gently jacked me up, and it is it is it has been shifting, and you but you know what I realized, you guys. I realized that it was both of the previous series where I was getting tuned up and getting set up for the for the shot that that pride series took at me. Come on now, and um let's just there was just there was so much I I I had to come to grips in my own life, you know, we're sharing this stuff with you, and in the background, I am having to deal with the reality that part of the reason why I was at the place that I was at in that series was because I was guilty of a significant high level of pride, and just because you're a Christian, just because you walk with God and all that does not mean you are incapable of walking in pride and thinking that because the I think the thing that stood out to me was this concept that pride puts you in this position where you're the god of your own life. That's right, and where I was supposed to be allowing God to make decisions and lead and guide me. I'm out here trying to lead and guide God and let Him know what's the best path for me. That's right, right, and that that was not working, and it was at that time he began to point out to me see how our relationship is right now. This isn't working, and so it was a significant series for me. And uh uh I'll you talk a little bit too, Philip, because I just thought about something else that I really loved about it.

SPEAKER_03:

That's good stuff, man. I you know, it's so funny because the word is meant to convict, you know, even you know, even though even those of us who are sharing it, you know, we're not exempt from getting convicted by it for sure, you know. Um, and believe me when I say I have had several, oh my goodness, like like eye-opening experiences in the past few months about my own pride and things that I thought that I was okay, you know, I'm good to go here. I don't need to touch anything over there, you know, in this area, I'm fine. Next thing you know, God's like, okay, let me peel this layer back, you know, let me peel this layer back. And all of a sudden you're like, oh gosh, I have no idea. So prideful, you know. Um, I've had to humble myself in a big way this year, in a big way. I I wish I could explain it all here. Um, but financially, financially, I've had to humble myself and recognize that all the dreams and stuff that I have, I have to be faithful over that which is little before I can ever get to the much. Period. If I'm not faithfully managing what's in my hands right now, how in the world am I going to be managing the bigger amounts and all the stuff that I'm dreaming about? And and if I'm not faithful with the one project God told me to start, why am I trying to start six and seven to eight other projects? You know, uh these types of things have really hit me square between the eyes in the past few months, and so I have actually pared down a lot of what I'm doing to where I'm really only focused on one thing right now that God gave me that's been in my life for about a decade, and it's something that I have not yet maximized. And I'm sitting here going, Yeah, but God, if I do these other things, I can fund this thing over here. And God's like, No, no, no, nope, you ain't getting it. You're trying to do it in a way that doesn't require faith. Wow, so it's not gonna work your way, yeah, exactly. Your way, and I was like, I mean, I've I've been it this has all been coming to me in the past few months, and I I I realized, you know, and I'm not trying to make this just a big, you know, uh vomit session, but you know, um, I I've definitely the pride versus humility, it spoke to me uh not as something that I'm preaching to other people, but also something where I gotta look at me in a with a very, very, you know, very hard lens. So um yeah, yeah, amen.

SPEAKER_00:

You know, the other thing, the other thing that really stood out to me was the stories. Yeah, it was it was Nebuchadnezzar, it was David, it was the prodigal son, and it was seeing the pride that was, you know, especially that Nebuchadnezzar story, man. It's been a long time since I looked at that. Oh my goodness, to see just how his pride had him end up eating the grass and basically no different than an animal. You know, that that just took me, that took me out because God had done such great things for him, and I'm looking at my own life and my track record. If you look back at the history over my life, people would say God has done great things in his life, but here I am, feel like I'm eating grass. And to realize that just so subtly full of yourself, subtly full of yourself, to the point where God's like, if I don't bring this to your attention and give you the opportunity to change, you're going to destroy yourself. Because we saw there in the word that it says pride comes before the fall, so there was a fall on the way. Come on, and to to miss it, and then to then turn around and start digging into humility and recognizing this is where we're supposed to be, and to realizing we're supposed to be fully leaned into God with our whole dependence on him for our everything and for what we have and what we need, and knowing that when we lean into God, he leans back into us, and that concept of humility. And you know, Lori did a visual on our Instagram. If you haven't been to our Instagram, go check it out. Um, but she did that visual on there. I don't know if you guys saw it where you got the guy putting on the apron, and that's representative of that servant's apron of humility that allows you to, you know, to always put yourself in position to serve. And it's like that messed me up too. But I've tried to, you know, I've tried to change since then. Like I even started, I got back more involved in church again with um, you know, I'm now leading a small group of of Gen Z kids at my church. Um, some of that is research for me, but it's the place where I feel God told me to go, and it's an opportunity to disciple people and to spend time with them. And so far, I'm reminded that I have a lot to learn, and the best position to be to be of a help to them is to be humble and to put on that servant's apron every time I walk in their presence. Yeah, what about you guys?

SPEAKER_03:

Man, sorry, I I want to jump ahead. It's anybody else that was about to say something, but um Ryan disappeared on us. Um shoot.

SPEAKER_04:

I was gonna say real quick, Uncle Phil, sorry. Oh, you're good. I I will say I I do appreciate how y'all defined pride, um, down to like the very core of what it means. Um, and it's just to put yourself before God. And I also appreciated uh like finding the difference between like being proud of something um versus being prideful, uh, because that to me was always confusing. Um I don't know how to describe it. Maybe it's just like an English thing where in the English language where I mean we use the same word, pride and being proud. Um, and it means two different things, but I do appreciate that that there is a bit of a separation there. Uh, to take pride in something doesn't necessarily mean to make it about yourself, you know. Um at the very least for me, like I appreciate the separation in definition, and then also defining humility. Um I feel like again, the best way to define it is just like you said, just those stories that were spoken, like just leading by example of what humility actually looks like. When you find out what it actually looks like, it's not what you expect it to be. Um another something you guys touched on this uh like one week where uh humility doesn't always mean like just bashing on yourself and putting yourself not to make yourself less, but to specifically make yourself uh like worse than everybody else. Like if you just like kind of constantly like you know beat yourself up, that's that's not really humility. That kind of stood out to me as well. Um and I was gonna say those I feel like these are definitions that like need to be defined, otherwise it can get a little confusing when we're because you say humility, and to you that means you know what you're reading, but to somebody else who hears it, that might not necessarily mean the same exact thing that you're trying to speak. So defining those really went a long way for sure. Good stuff.

SPEAKER_00:

That's good. That's good. Go ahead, Phil. What were you about to say?

SPEAKER_03:

Oh, um, nothing major. I just wanted to say about humility. The thing about um agreeing with God as part of humility, that you know that that was an eye-opener, is that being humble, like John said, it's not you know just you bashing yourself and self-deprecation all the time. It actually you know includes being in agreement with what God's word says about you, because nothing is more prideful than disagreeing with what God says. Um, if he says you're more than a conqueror, then you don't need to go around saying you're a punk clown that can't get anything done, you know. Um, so yeah, just a little tidbit there, like agreeing with God is a big component of humility as well.

SPEAKER_00:

So yeah, that's good for and then we jump from we, I mean, we just did a natural jump, it just seemed to make so much sense to me. And then we started we jumped right into what we kind of finished the year with last week, which is this concept of thanksgiving and gratitude, and um that's also jacked me up, and that's it's jack, and I mean it it's the per it was it's it was the perfect come off to me from humility because it's like you know, you you when you talk about getting low, which means humbling yourself, which means putting on that servant's garb and being ready to be used of the Lord in any way that you can, and that we we we even talked about it a little bit as we were talking about humility, it begins to produce this thanksgiving in you, yeah. And as we begin to learn when we talked about gratitude and thanksgiving, we talked about how gratitude was the kind of inward expression of how good God is, how much He's done, how much you appreciate of Him, and that Thanksgiving is giving verbal expression to that internal dialogue, to that internal sense of gratitude. And that just is that's that shaped my everyday now because I'm giving up every day with Thanksgiving. I find myself pondering the good things that God has done, the good things that are going on. I've been in a couple of situations that you know didn't seem like things were great at that moment, but I just began to ponder how good God is, yeah, and let that come out of my mouth and praise and thanksgiving, and it is shifting my atmosphere, and I can feel it, I can feel it shifting that atmosphere. Um, but man, it was such a great way to end the year.

SPEAKER_03:

Absolutely, absolutely, yeah. Man, it's something that you know, if if you make a practice of it, it can really change your life, you know. Just starting to recognize and count your blessings, as the old saying goes, you know, just take time to think about all that God has done for you, all that you take for granted every day. Um, I mean, if you woke up and you were not in a hospital, you're doing pretty good. You know what I mean? I mean, you're doing great, dude. You know, you can you can walk, you can think, you can speak, you can hear, smell, see the basics of life that we all take for granted. They're actually super uh they're super amazing. They're privileges that we all you know can be thankful for. Um, because man, you know, that old uh David, you might remember this, it was during the hair metal days, but there was that group called Cinderella that had that song, you don't know what a song called You Don't Know What You Got Till It's Gone. You know, yeah, and it's true. It's like you literally, you know, I mean, prayerfully, you won't have to lose a lot of stuff to kind of figure it out, you know. But but just be be thankful for what you do have, because if you didn't have it, it might not be all that great. So uh I'm I'm grateful for sure.

SPEAKER_00:

And I'm gonna tell you, I'm gonna tell you that this gratitude and thankfulness piece has been the thing that's really helped me to stay focused on today. Yes, um, yes, because you know the Bible tells us that tomorrow's not promised. That's right. And that since we know tomorrow is not promised, then we also know that maybe our focus shouldn't be on tomorrow. Maybe what we should focus on is what is in front of us today. And like I said earlier, like Matthew 6 says, let tomorrow has enough stuff of its own to worry about itself. Yeah, let tomorrow do that, and you stay focused in today. And one of the things that allows you to do is stay in the moment more frequently, um, and to feel things, sense things, be a part of things, engage in things in a right way that sometimes tomorrow can steal from you, and so you that that has helped me to to kind of focus up a bit. How about you, John?

SPEAKER_04:

I I 100% agree. Um I also think that I do appreciate the not pun intended, I do appreciate uh finding a definition for gratitude. Uh if I recall correctly, it's to be grateful is to be thankful for his grace. Or to to have gratitude in your heart is to to thank God for his grace. And I th that stood out to me a lot. I just you guys are talking about you know you know not worrying about tomorrow and and all I can think of is how um not I don't I'm not trying to bring the mood down or anything but my grandfather on my dad's side um he that's how he passed away one day just by going to bed and he just never woke up and one of my dad you know found out and he told me I was too young to fully comprehend what was going on but I knew that he was passed away and it kind of like it didn't scare me but it definitely like opened my eyes up a little bit you know that's when I'm you know when you're nine ten years old you don't really think about these things but all I can think of is like wow um nothing all of a sudden you know me being a brat about not getting my Christmas presents uh it's not as important anymore because I don't even know if we can even make it to Christmas you know but right it's but that thinking just kind of always stuck along and I never um again it wasn't it's not like stuck in my mind as like as a form of trauma to like you know that scared me but it was just always in the back of my mind like I you know my grandfather never really woke up um and it just it's just one of those things where you know I don't think I mean nobody really expects it but it just happened and so in my mind I'm like there's that's just like a constant reminder that you know really truly if that were if that was if tonight was that night for me um are these things that I'm thinking about really worth it are these things that are stressing me out and making me want to pull my hair out is it really worth all the effort and time that I'm putting into it uh if I have to consider that I might not even get tomorrow you know um definitely like changes your perspective on everything and um and it just to kind of full circle to what I said before um I know I went like sideways but um very specifically to be grateful is to be thankful for God's grace. And it just all the it just like I said knowing that tomorrow is not promised um man it's so easy to just start going down this list of like you know I'm I'm thankful for the air that I breathe I'm thankful for being able to close my eyes and being able to open them and then to be able to have lungs and it's just it's so easy once you have that perspective shift to just start just praising him in gratitude. One more thing before I know I've I've already said so much but uh I did recently come across um this little TikTok where this lady was just she was so she was in the spirit of gratitude and she had this moment where she she this thought occurred to her she was like what if what if we didn't get to have the things that we weren't grateful for and then she like I said she started going down that list like Lord thank you for being able to for being able to have a body and to be able to being able to wake up and see and hear and taste like and she just it was all of a sudden like I said you it's so easy to start worshiping in gratitude when you have that perspective of of what really matters and what really doesn't matter that's good john one of the other things one of the other things we found in this series was we uncovered that the word thanksgiving in the Greek is the Greek word eucharistos or well various Eucharistos eucharistios and um the concept of being able to tie that back to the Eucharist being the last supper and giving thanks that's what they were doing Jesus was giving thanks and he gave thanks when he broke the bread he gave thanks when he you know gave the wine out we find out when he was working the miracles of feeding the 5,000 he gave thanks we looked at Paul and how Paul gave thanks before they ate and they were shipwrecked we see that first um 1 Thessalonians 518 tells us to give thanks in every circumstance for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus and all of these things start in the heart and ultimately are expressed out of the mouth and uh I just tell you that concept that God's grace works well.

SPEAKER_00:

God's grace works well is something to meditate on and to chew on and let it fill your life and uh yeah it it's just I'm grateful that we covered that content at the end of the year because it's not something that I've ever stopped and looked at in all of my years of study to be honest with you.

SPEAKER_04:

And I am so glad we did because it's changed it's changed my life for the positive amen amen we're about to wrap it up gentlemen any final words for you I just want to say thanks to all the viewers over the past year to you know for for all the subscribers for being there for us on our in our live uh broadcast and and just being a part of what we're doing we do want to reach even more people next year and and we just you know appreciate you guys definitely uh check out the catalog of videos anytime you feel led to do so so that's it for me how about you John I want to say that it it has been a very interesting year um and I'm so I'm just glad that I'm here able to do this with you guys I'm grateful for you guys of course um I I don't want to I don't want to make it sound just too I don't know if prophetic is the right word but I have this feeling that next year is going to be great um and I would love I mean this goes out to you too and then it goes out to of course our audience like I would love love love to see you guys just be a part of this um because I mean you guys have already been so like overwhelming with your support like bring it on dude whatever questions you guys come across like whatever thoughts like dude don't be scared like we'd love to be able to have these conversations with y'all um I mean I me personally I don't know about these two uh older fellas but I'm having a great time so bring it on like the the new year is gonna be amazing um like all glory to God honestly there you go on on behalf of us two decrepit old people on geriatrics over here right yeah praise god oh you know you guys just the only word that seems right is thank you we're so grateful first of all first of all we're thankful to God for the opportunity to be able to use a platform like this to be able to do something that we're passionate about Philip and I have always been and we're now John and Ryan we're passionate about sharing God's word we're passionate about teaching that word and digging into understanding and sharing the things that we find and so which leads us to being thankful for you because you don't have to listen to this stuff whether you listen for a little bit or the whole episode we're just grateful for you.

SPEAKER_00:

We're grateful that you listen that you would give us any time we're so thankful for that we don't we know that you're not required to which makes it all the more special when you do give us your time and for that we say thank you for all of you who have subscribed who like episodes who share whether it's on YouTube or Rumble or you've given us some likes over on Instagram or TikTok we thank you we thank you for engaging with the show but the most important thing that we want you to walk away with is a relationship with the Lord we want you to know him and his great salvation we want you to study we want you to dig in and we want you to become solid people in Christ who are unshakable in your faith uh who won't be moved when trials and troubles and tribulations come because you'll know what to do and you'll know that what to do is to get that word out and use it as your weapon. Remember Ephesians 6 starts starting about 1514 or so where he tells us that the weapons of our warfare well not the weapons of our warfare but um that we have on the full armor of God that we're able to stand against the wiles of the devil and then he tells us how we put that on but he also tells us that we're fighting against the principalities the powers the rulers of the darkness of this world against spiritual wickedness in high places but we have the victory and we want to walk in victory and next year we're gonna walk in even more victory. Philip let's pray for everybody for the rest of the year and as they go into next year.

SPEAKER_03:
