The Powerful Force of Peace | Walking in the Spirit | Bible, Bros & Brew
When you hear the word "peace", what ideas come to your mind? What does peace look like to you? Interestingly enough, the biblical concept of peace is far more expansive than just having a calm feeling--it's also a spiritual force that can bring a powerful sense of stability and assurance to yourself and others. In this latest installment of our series called "Walking in the Spirit", David & Phil explore the meaning of the word "peace" as mentioned in Paul's list of the fruit of the spirit in Galatians 5:22. So grab your Bible and a cup of your favorite brew, and dig into this eye-opening topic with us as we study God's Word together.

Walk in the Spirit and you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh. That's Paul's message to the Galatians and to us, and tonight we're going to continue walking through, looking at oh. We've looked at love, we looked at joy. Tonight we're going to look at peace and long-suffering and we'll see how far we get on this episode of Bible Bros and Brew. I'm David With me. Tonight we've got the full Monty. We've got over here, on my side, phillip. Down over here in the corner is Ryan, and directly below me we've got John, and we're all glad to be here together and to get connected with you.
Speaker 1:We are studying the Bible and tonight we're still in Galatians, chapter 5. You might be saying to yourself my God, how long can they be in one spot? Well, you know we're trying to pull out all the nutrients that we can out of it. And even with us trying to pull out all the nutrients we can, we still know that we've left so much behind. That can still be discussed, and that's what makes the word so good. It's this concept that you can't exhaust the word. You just keep digging in. And the more you dig in, you see level after level, layer after layer of revelation that is life-changing and opens your eyes up even more and even more so. Tonight we're talking about walking in the Spirit. We've transitioned over and we're walking through the fruit of the Spirit. We've talked about love and we've talked about joy, and now we're going to, this week, start talking about the concept of peace. But before we do, let's talk about what's in the cups. Phillip, brian, john, everybody's drinking something. Let's see. I think that John should go first. John, what's in the cup?
Speaker 2:Listen. Today I decided to get a little bold. I pulled out the Bailey's I believe it's a hazelnut Irish cream and, if you haven't been paying attention, I've been trying so hard to lay off all the sweeteners and the creamers and whatnot and this thing is like the best replacement if you're looking for flavor, looking for something strong because I definitely need something strong today, that's for sure. But man, that's what I've been working with today. I hope that it's going to. I don't hope I know it's going to carry me on this entire conversation.
Speaker 1:So what is the coffee you poured the Baileys in.
Speaker 2:No, no, no, that was no. That is the coffee, oh.
Speaker 1:God it, that is the coffee.
Speaker 2:It's an Irish creamer, not Irish creamer Irish coffee.
Speaker 1:It could be Irish creamer. Irish creamer is considered a flavor.
Speaker 2:Yeah, and it's really good. I'm also a hazelnut type of guy too. I'm a sucker for this right now. It's nice, it's flavorful, it's waking me up today for the rest of the day.
Speaker 1:Nice, nice Okay.
Speaker 2:Brian, what? About you today.
Speaker 3:What coffee shop did you spend the weekend? Yes, David's saying that because I think he called me over the weekend and I was at the coffee shop at old world. I don't have that today. Today I've got the peats in the cup. Yeah, big bang roast. It's a medium roast peats and uh, yeah, I like it. You know it's just a you know good thing to have on standby. Like it, it's just a good thing to have on standby.
Speaker 1:Yes, sir, never lets you down, never gives up, never fails.
Speaker 3:It's kind of like, yeah, it's good. I thought for a minute.
Speaker 4:You were going to Rickroll us with that.
Speaker 1:Ryan, I have to say I am a little bit jealous of your quality time you're spending in a very cool coffee shop. It looks like it's a dope coffee shop no dude, it's nice.
Speaker 2:So it's called Old World.
Speaker 4:Old World yeah, I'm going to look it up online and see how the atmosphere is with me.
Speaker 3:Why don't you guys just fly out here and we'll just go over there, Dude on location.
Speaker 4:I like that. Why don't you guys just fly out here and we'll just go over there? Dude on location.
Speaker 1:I like that. I'm not being ugly, I'm just telling the truth. And if telling the truth means I'm being ugly, forgive me. Every coffee shop isn't a great spot. No, that's true.
Speaker 4:Truth.
Speaker 1:Truth, yeah, so I'll leave that at that. Phillip, help me get out of trouble here saying too much.
Speaker 4:You're good man. I will say shout out to Bloom Organics in Peachtree City. That's like our favorite coffee shop to go to right now, because it's like this cool coffee shop and like a gift shop as well. So, um, they make good stuff.
Speaker 1:They're awesome, so um if you're anywhere in that, I'll drink their coffee. I do actually.
Speaker 4:I've bought their um decaf before and it was good man, so um. But tonight I have a different decaf and it would be Peregrine Columbia Atunca. I think I've talked about this one before on the show. It's got marzipan flavor notes, cinnamon, chocolate and somehow tangerine as well. According to the label, it's awesome.
Speaker 3:Can we get an interpretation of tongues? Can?
Speaker 2:we get an interpretation of tongues.
Speaker 1:Hey, this spiritual gift included with this bag.
Speaker 4:How about you, David? What's in your cup, man?
Speaker 1:Tonight I am drinking something new.
Speaker 4:It's actually a.
Speaker 1:Member's Mark coffee. So that came from Sam's. Sam's is Member's Mark right, kirkland's is Costco. All right, yeah. So this one is called Cinnamon Roasted Almond and, as you can see, for the first time in a a while I've also gone back to a k-cup because this wouldn't taste really good. It doesn't have any of that old, you know left behind cake up flavor that sometimes you can find in a cake up okay, but it's really nice. It's very simple. It's a nice toasted coffee that's got a nice hint of cinnamon in it. You can taste the almonds a little bit and it doesn't leave a nasty back splash, that back flavor, on the back of your tongue. It's very smooth, so it's a medium roast that I highly recommend that you grab that. So that's it.
Speaker 1:Well, that's what everybody's drinking, and now we're going to transition over to the word and talk about what everybody's thinking and what everybody's reading in the scripture. You know we've been talking about the fruit of the spirit and we've been talking about the works of the flesh and this whole set of content from Galatians, chapter 5, verse 16, all the way down through, I believe, verse 24 or 25, which is the end of the chapter, and we looked at each of the works of the flesh and we saw how each of those works of the flesh are designed to trip us up and to cause us to miss the kingdom of heaven. It's such a fleshly world that to put your stock in any or any number of those works of the flesh is to really not have your focus and attention on the things of God but the things of this world. And so now we're looking at the contrast of those many things. And you know, there was something in Ryan Ryan I think it was Ryan last week, or maybe it was the week before, or maybe it was John mentioned that. You know, the works of the flesh, just even their listing out, seemed chaotic. They're just this kind of wild gathering of things versus the orderly fashion in which it seems that the fruit of the Spirit are already working out.
Speaker 1:We started off last week with the foundation of it all, which is love, and we identified the concept that love is the foundation of everything and it has to be that all of these fruit are born out of a heart or life lived in love. And then we introduced ourselves to the concept of joy and we looked at the concept that joy. Philip said something last week that our old pastor used to say joy comes from what you know. It's not an emotional thing. But even taking it a step further, joy comes from what you know about the Word of God. It is steeped in the knowledge of spiritual things. It's not steeped in or it's not dependent upon how things go externally in your life for you to have joy, but rather the fulfillment of the spiritual things in one's life and the knowledge of those spiritual things in one's life.
Speaker 1:So now that we've looked at love and joy, we're going to look at the last of that first group of three and we're going to look at the word peace. Interestingly enough, as we start talking about peace, philip, I'm reminded of something that I read that talked about the concept of how, just like in Corinthians, they had this concept of love, joy and peace came across just as strongly among believers as a trio of characteristics of fruit that are to be born in the lives of believers. But if we look at this concept of peace, we again have to dig into the Greek and the Hebrew of this and dig a little bit to truly understand what this word peace actually means. You want to kick us off, phil? Where do you want to go first?
Speaker 4:Yeah, the word peace itself, like in Galatians 5, the Strong's Concordance definition. I think it'd be a good place to start. I have it as I think it's G1515. And if you look up that word, I think this is pretty.
Speaker 1:Don't feel it. Let's take a moment, because we're asking people to study with us and he just said G1515. Just explain to people what that means and what you're looking at.
Speaker 4:I appreciate you for doing that, for slowing me down, because you got a good point. It's not G14 classified by the way, it's G1515. Couldn't resist man, it's an old school joke. But the words when we talk about G1515 or any kind of like G and then a number, that's talking about the numbering system in what's called the Strong's Concordance. Many of you have probably heard of the Strong's Concordance, but if you haven't heard about it, it's a Bible study tool. It's a gigantic book, but nowadays most people access it online.
Speaker 4:The concordance is basically similar to a dictionary, but not quite the same thing what it did or what. The gentleman who created this concordance his name is James Strong. He listed every time a particular word was found in the Bible, and I mean it could be everything from the word V, the word A or the letter A. You know every single word that appears in a Bible. He documented it, found out what the original word was in the like the ancient Hebrew manuscripts, the Greek manuscripts, and he created this like a reference guide. So, for instance, when Paul said this word peace in Galatians five in the Strong's Concordance, and if you look at what's on the screen there, it says peace, and then right underneath, peace, and highlighted in yellow. It's like these Greek letters. Now, I'm not a Greek scholar, I don't know the first thing about how to read that in Greek, but you don't have to, because this guy was, and so he put this together for people who are the layman study in the Bible it's the word Irene or whatever. I'm not even sure how to pronounce that. But if you look further down, the little blue letters there it says Strong's Greek, 1515. So you could actually look that number up and you'll find that Greek word peace. And there it is. And so anytime that word appears in the New Testament you can see the other places where it's listed like good Lord. There's a bunch of them on the right-hand side there.
Speaker 4:But if you wanted to find out what the definition of that word is according to what it meant back in that day in that culture, in the Greek culture of the time, that's what this is all about. And so it tells you. It says their definition. Well, I'm skipping down a little bit. On the left hand side, under Strom's lexicon it says original word, part of speech, transliteration. It gives you all those different things, but then it gets down to the definition and it says the meaning is peace, peace of mind, invocation of peace, a common Jewish farewell. You know how, and I think in the Hebrew it's shalom. You've probably heard that many times before, different ways.
Speaker 4:But then we get down to where it says usage. Down there, a couple of little spaces down, it says in the New Testament, airene or however you say, that primarily denotes a state of tranquility, harmony and well-being. So there's your real core definition of what that word meant when paul was using it tranquility, harmony, well-being. And it says it is used to describe both the absence of conflict and the presence of positive blessings. So again, the absence of conflict, that's what's not there. And in the presence of positive blessings, that's what's not there. And then the presence of positive blessings, that's what is there, such as safety, prosperity and spiritual peace. And it says the term is often associated with the peace that comes from a right relationship with God through Jesus Christ, as well as the peace that believers are called to maintain with one another. So there you have it. I mean that's like the textbook literally textbook definition of peace, and what I love about that is what it says about having a right relationship with God produces this type of peace.
Speaker 4:There's so many scriptures that back up that idea, like in Romans 5, it says since we've been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. So the peace we have comes from being justified by his blood. And then also the opposite is true, like if you were to go back to the Old Testament. In Isaiah he said the wicked are like the troubled sea. I think it's in Isaiah 50 something. I'm sorry if I don't remember it, but it says the wicked are like the troubled sea that cannot rest. And then it says there is no peace to the wicked.
Speaker 4:So you've got those who are in right relationship with God enjoying peace, those who are actively opposed to God having no rest and no peace, actively opposed to God having no rest and no peace. So we see, there there's this. First of all, peace itself is actually connected with how you're connected with God if that makes sense, or maybe the lack thereof, and when you think about what he means in Galatians 5, about the fruit of the Spirit, in other words, what the Spirit's presence in you, what the Holy Spirit's presence in you should produce, is that peace, that tranquility of mind, that stableness in your thought, life and in your heart. When he has free reign and we're not letting pride get in the way and selfishness get in the way and the flesh get in the way, we can let that peace that's in us come forth out of us. So I probably went a little too long in my initial definition, but that's what I'm gathering from that Galatians 5 scripture there.
Speaker 1:No, no, no, that's good. I think that there is, and I'm looking, as you guys know, as we've been walking through Galatians, I've been using the new American commentary to walk through with us, and I also pulled up another commentary, I just don't have it in front of me at the moment it talks about here. That I think is important is that the Hebrew concept of shalom is much more positive than that, referring to a condition of wholeness and well-being that includes both a right relationship with a God and loving harmony with one's fellow human beings. So peace calls us to. You know, just because we're being right with God isn't enough. Well, you fix me if I go way off, bill. Having peace with God is good, but God wants you to have peace with him and with your fellow man.
Speaker 1:Yes that's true I think I worked it out in a better way than I was about to say it.
Speaker 4:Sounds legit to me.
Speaker 1:Right, because it goes on to say that Christians are called to be peacemakers, both within the family of faith and throughout the broader human community. Paul admonished believers to make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification. So this call to be people of peace is something that we can. Again, we can practically walk out, just like we could practically walk out love. We can practically walk out, just like we could practically walk out love. We can practically walk out joy. We can practically walk out peace by number one, as it says being peacemakers not only in our community but amongst our broader community, not the faith community. You know if you'll make peace at church but you stir crap up outside of church. You're not a peacemaker right.
Speaker 1:A peacemaker is working to bring peace in every area of his life, because that's just the nature of who he is. And so we've got to walk in, bring me walk out, bringing that that Shalom, that sense of wh he is, and so we've got to walk out, bringing that shalom, that sense of wholeness. There's nothing missing or broken in me, so there's not going to be anything missing and broken in you, to the best of my ability.
Speaker 1:And you know what drives that. What drives that desire is love. It's a love-born desire. I want to read one more thing to you, Philip.
Speaker 1:It says the Baptist faith and message contains an article on peace and war that speaks of the peacemaking not just peacekeeping responsibility of every believer. It goes on to say it is the duty of Christians to seek peace with all men on principles of righteousness, In accordance with the spirit and teachings of Christ. They should do all in their power to put an end to war. The true remedy for the war spirit is the gospel of our Lord the supreme. Can I just say something? I know we don't. That makes me think about the whole right now, the war between Russia and Ukraine, and there's definitely a war spirit present. And it says the true remedy for the war spirit is the gospel of our Lord. Wow, and so that informs me on how I ought to pray. I'm beginning to pray for the salvation of everybody involved, of everybody involved. I'm beginning to pray for God to intervene with his good news and change the lives of people, because the gospel changes the war spirit.
Speaker 1:It's the answer, so I can begin to pray that answer. It goes on to say the supreme need of the world is the acceptance of his teachings in all the affairs of men and nations and the practical application of his law of love. So once again, there we see that love is connected to peace. Wow, we, we, we need love working in us to help us to be peacemakers, both in the community of faith and externally in the broader community, because it's the right thing to do, it's the loving thing to do.
Speaker 2:Man.
Speaker 4:Wow, go on, sir. I like what I'm hearing.
Speaker 1:Well, I'll give you one more piece here and it it says it talks about, as I talked about in the beginning, the triad of love, joy and peace, and it offers that we should think of that first triad, this first triad of love, joy and peace, as love being the foundation, joy being the superstructure, and that's all the stuff that lays on top of the foundation, the columns, the walls, the windows, all of that, and it's crowned.
Speaker 1:That piece is the crown of all, and I was telling Philip a week or two ago, you know it made me think about. Here in Atlanta we have these two buildings called the King and Queen Building, and you can tell the difference between the two by the crown each building has. And so it's not a crazy thing to think that a building is crowned, because most buildings are crowned with some kind of ornate thing around the very last, the very top floor. So love is the foundation, joy is the superstructure and peace is the crown of all. So that's a good way, I think, to think about these first three of love, joy and peace.
Speaker 4:That's good, man, that's good. Are those the buildings in Marietta, the two king and queen buildings?
Speaker 1:Yeah, like Dunwoody, I think.
Speaker 4:Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah, up on the north side, that's right, that's cool, correct, correct, good stuff. I, yeah, yeah, up on the north side, that's right, that's cool, correct, correct, good stuff. I like that. I like that as if it being kind of a trinity, because, honestly, if you're functioning in the condition of heart and mind, as the Bible talks about, but also there's another element to it where it's something you can how can I put it? Something you can bring into a situation. So it's not something that can just affect you, it's not like, okay, I feel peace because my mind's tranquil, my heart's at rest. That's an element of it. But then there's also the element of you bringing that peace into a situation. I think about when Jesus was preaching in Mark, chapter four, and he had preached all day, talked about the parable of the sower, and then they finally get into the boat and they're going to the other side and all of a sudden, this huge storm just hits the boat and the disciples are freaking out, but Jesus is sleeping. You know, I love that whole sequence of events. And they come to him. They're like you know, master, don't you care that we're drowning? And he's like dude, what man? I'm trying to get some sleep. And then he gets up and he actually says I think he said peace to the wind. Is that right? Peace be still, peace be still. That's what it was. Peace be still. So he spoke peace in that situation. There it is. Thanks, Ryan, let's see here.
Speaker 4:Yeah, in verse 38 of Mark 4, it says and he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow, and they awake him and say unto him master, care us down, not that we perish, you know, don't you care that we're about to die. And he arose and he rebuked the wind and said unto. And so here we have Jesus, literally bringing peace into a situation that desperately needed it. And there's that element of it that you can not only be a person who walks in peace for yourself, but you can bring peace into situations when you see others might be struggling with something. You can bring a word in due season, you can speak a word of encouragement to them. You can find out a need that needs to be met. Let's say, their car just broke down, they need some repairs and you have the money to be able to help them with the repairs. You're actually bringing peace into that situation by doing those things, yeah that's good.
Speaker 4:Praise God, and so it's a force that you can apply to a situation, and I remember and David, you probably remember this from way back in the day, but our pastor used to teach on these things called the forces of the reborn spirit, and peace was one of those forces. Like it's a spiritual force that not only can change how you think and how you respond, but also can you can bring peace into other people's lives as well.
Speaker 1:Yeah, you know my wife used to say you know, when she would tell people about me or say something to me or sometimes need to encourage me, she would say you carry peace.
Speaker 2:Wow.
Speaker 1:She says you carry peace with you. When you walk in a room, peace comes with you, and that has to do with that. Some of that has to do with that, some of that has to do with something per some personality types but other, you know? Um, philip carries peace with him too, and I think it's a nature that we default to uh, because we're not out here trying to start no stuff. We just want to be at peace and we want to let people live in peace that's it.
Speaker 4:That's all I care about. Be at peace, and we won't let people live in peace.
Speaker 1:That's it. That's all I care about.
Speaker 1:But again, as I'm sitting here thinking about it, I feel so strongly about the concept that peace is filled with such love and it's a love, is a necessary tool in your. You know, think about it, you know, if you, if you well, this may be a horrible example Now that I'm thinking about it, but you know you have a Nerf gun and that Nerf gun isn't any good until you either have some water in it or you have some of the little Nerf darts in it. And you know if, if peace is the gun, then love is the, is the water in it. And you know, if peace is the gun, then love is the water in it. It's filled with that, and that may not be a great example, so don't at me later on for giving me a horrible example.
Speaker 1:But, yeah, peace and love and joy all go together.
Speaker 3:Hey, david, long time listener, first time caller, you're on the air, go ahead. So I have a question for you guys about peace. You know the definition is harmony, right?
Speaker 1:So you have that balance.
Speaker 3:You know the definition is harmony, right? So you have that balance. And what is? Is there a?
Speaker 4:difference between being at peace and being comfortable, because sometimes I think you know Christians, we're looking and rightfully so for peace, but sometimes I found that we can confuse peace with being comfortable.
Speaker 1:Can I tackle this, David? Well, I was hoping you would Thank you, ryan.
Speaker 4:That's a great question, man. The reason why I jumped on this is because I've got a life experience that really to me kind of reflects what you're talking about, man, and it's actually praise God, man.
Speaker 4:It's actually when David approached me about an opportunity for a new job but what? Six years ago, something like that by now. But and I was comfortable working from home, know, like with my little I was, I was doing freelance writing. I was very comfortable, just, you know, crank out articles and send them to people and never had to have face-to-face contact with anybody, just doing my thing. And then then david comes with this opportunity to to be a trainer and to stand in front of people and to have to interact with folks again and stuff. And I hadn't done that in a long time at that time, and so I was leery about it. Plus, I was doing something in a field that I'd never worked in before. Like when, when David presented this to me, it was like I don't know the first thing about this field. So there was an element of where I had to to sit and be trained for a few weeks on on things that I'd never learned about before, and so it was very nerve wracking. But the other part of it and I think this is the biggest part is that he told me about the opportunity and I only had a very small window of time to respond, and the thing was, if I don't respond in this certain time, it's pretty much going to be over.
Speaker 4:But I had to leave my house, my comfort, my family, for two solid weeks and go out of town to get this opportunity. So I had to basically about maybe 24 to 48 hours to make this decision to be gone for two solid weeks, and I hadn't done that in I don't even know when. And so it was like all this turmoil in my mind like, oh gosh, man, you know what do I do. And so I really had to pray. I had to pray and get, you know, kind of my head on straight about it, and the thing that I heard get kind of my head on straight about it, and the thing that I heard, it just came to my spirit crystal clear. I simply heard this it's time for you to grow.
Speaker 4:And so I took that and I was like, all of a sudden, even though I felt discomfort, I felt complete topsy-turvy turmoil, I was at peace at the same time, knowing that I had to do that, that I had to pursue that opportunity, and so that was honestly a crisis moment for me, like what am I going to do? But it turned out to be the right decision, definitely, and God did use it in so many different ways to help me grow as a person and grow financially, even all those kind of cool things. So again, ryan, I think hopefully that helps is that I felt no comfort at all in that moment, but I felt total peace at the same time. So thank God for that. I mean it was a wild thing, but it turned out to be a blessing for sure.
Speaker 1:Well, but you know, ryan can relate.
Speaker 4:Yeah, that's true.
Speaker 1:And it takes me back to a conversation he and I just had yesterday. Okay, spill the tea, spill the brew At the same time I was putting that pressure on you, Phillip, to come and do this thing with me, I was applying the same pressure to Ryan and saying come, do something different, something new. And Ryan fought.
Speaker 3:As I always do.
Speaker 1:He fought with me, he struggled, he had all these excuses why he couldn't rand.
Speaker 3:I've never asked you what caused you to move out of your comfort zone into tackling this thing well, I guess, uh, just looking back at the uh series of events, it was just god putting metals in the nest, like uh, I, you know it's just kind of odd. Like um, just I got very uncomfortable in where I was, and forcibly so, and um, like it, just all, it's just. I can't go into the details because it would take a very long time, but just, yeah, very got very uncomfortable very quickly. Uh, where?
Speaker 1:I was, and so, and so you'd see the um. I cannot remember where it is, philip. You may remember where it is in the bible, but you know the bible talks about the umpire of peace.
Speaker 4:Oh, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1:That's in Colossians 3. Yeah, Look that up, Brian, the umpire of peace, calling safe and out right, and one of the things that peace will do in your life is that. You know you can. I've had times in my life and you just heard Philip and Ryan stories. You know it wasn't. You know, Philip heard something, yes, and Ryan experienced something, but what they both had was at one point, there was discomfort in staying where they were.
Speaker 4:Yeah.
Speaker 1:And there was peace in this thing they knew nothing of, and that's kind of a wild feeling.
Speaker 2:It is.
Speaker 1:It's a wild feeling, but it's one of the ways that the Holy Spirit tries to communicate with you that when you there've been so many times in my life where my peace has just disappeared and I knew something was wrong. When my peace was gone, I knew something was wrong. Something was happening. I was on a vacation and I went back to my parents' house and I kept telling my wife I was like something's not right, something's not going well back at the job or something. I don't feel any peace right now.
Speaker 2:Wow.
Speaker 1:And, sure enough, as we dug a little bit and I dug into it a little bit more found out there was all kinds of stuff going on that wasn't right, wow. So the Holy Ghost will use your peace as a means to communicate with you and point you in the direction you either need to go or to cause you to stop for a moment and check things out to see what's missing that's caused your peace not to be right. I've had my peace jacked with my kids. I'm like something's not right. Something's not right with what Josh was saying. I need to go dig in here and check out some more and you find things and you dig. It's a life-enhancing fruit and ability that God gives us in peace that's good.
Speaker 1:So not only are we supposed to be bringers of peace and peacemakers, but we're also to be participants in that peace. Yeah, but we'll also be participants in that peace, yeah, and God will help us to participate in it, and he'll use it as a means to communicate with your heart.
Speaker 4:That's good stuff, david. Actually, back in Colossians 3, I wanted to pull up one of those scriptures, Ryan, if you don't mind because he talks about let the peace of God rule in your heart.
Speaker 4:And there it is. I don't know if the Amplified Bible is in here somewhere, but I know the Amplified has the yeah, there it is. Let the peace of Christ, the inner calm of one who walks daily with him, christ, the inner calm of one who walks daily with him, come on now, be the controlling factor in your hearts, deciding and settling questions that arise. To this piece. Indeed, you are called as members of one body and always be thankful. I'll skip the rest of that, but I like that it says it's the controlling factor in your heart. It decides and settles the questions that arise. You should always check with your peace, like David was saying about how he knew something wasn't quite right. And I'm telling you guys, it'll save you a lot of time, a lot of heartache, a lot of money, a lot of other stuff too, if you don't go into things when your peace is not intact. And like we talked about, it doesn't mean we're not talking about comfort in this situation, we're talking about that inner witness that you get that maybe there's things where you don't feel comfortable in your you know like naturally comfortable, but you know it's the right thing in your spirit, or you might think it's the right thing in your spirit, or you might think it's awesome, naturally, but your spirit's going nah, that ain't it, dude. You know, cause we've had I mean, I know all of us can probably have this one way or the other people present us with certain business opportunities or certain things like that, and they, they tell you how much they're making. Oh man, you know, my, my, my upline is making fifty thousand a month.
Speaker 4:Man, we got to get in on this stuff, you know. And they tell you the. All you got to do is sponsor five people and this, that and the other, and so you're jumping in based on seeing the dollar signs, and then you find out later. I should have listened to my piece, man. This, this thing is like it's a rip off, ripoff, and there's so many different things. It can even be down to who you choose as a business partner If somebody isn't quite sitting with your piece, even if they present themselves in a way that looks awesome and looks like they got all the credentials and blah, blah, blah, but then something still ain't sitting right, and you know it deep down, you know it. Don't ignore that voice. That is the voice of peace trying to tell you yeah, everything's great, appreciate your presentation, but I'm going to have to pass, you know.
Speaker 1:And Philip, can I throw something in there on that too?
Speaker 4:Please.
Speaker 1:That means you have to be willing to listen to peace and risk offending people oh boy, that's good. That's good man, because people won't necessarily like it, when they want you to be, you know, a part of their pyramid.
Speaker 1:That's what it really is you know and you don't do their pyramid with them. You're not jumping on board with the scheme. They'll get mad with you about it If you don't jump on things. I can't believe you're willing to throw away this opportunity to make millions of dollars in no time at all just by simply dropping $10,000. No, you have to trust your peace. You've got to trust it because God's given it to you. It's a gift, that's right. Let the peace of God rule in your heart. Let it rule, let it have authority in your heart.
Speaker 1:Let it rule, let it have authority, let it have charge. If you will and if you'll follow it, it will help to lead and guide you right, exactly where you're supposed to be, fortunately for Philip and fortunately for Ryan, when I presented those opportunities. If I'll tell you the other side of the story, it wasn't that I knew Philip had a skill set and I knew what Ryan could do. I believed that they could make a difference in the project that I was doing.
Speaker 1:I didn't know exactly how it would all work out. I just knew that I wanted to work with Philip. I knew I wanted to work with Ryan, and I knew that I was being given the opportunity to pull this team together and so pull the people together that you want to work with, because that would be a better environment, and the fact that they were both believers played a role into it, and I knew that, if nothing else, we would pray and god would get us through stuff yeah um david go ahead, brian uh, just to your point and phil's point, if, um, somebody is asking or telling you that you, can you know, get you know x, y and z result if you bring along x, y and z amount of people, um, that's of the devil, and I'll tell you how.
Speaker 3:I know. I was listening to like a this is just kind of a side thing, but I was listening to this um podcast. What he was? A former really high-level Satanist and Freemasons and stuff, and he was saying that when he entered the Satanic church and he sold his soul to the devil, part of the deal was he had to bring five people along with him before he could do it. And so multi-level marketing is Satanic. Five people along with him before he can do it Wow, multi-level marketing is satanic.
Speaker 1:Even hell has a pyramid scheme. Avoid it at all costs.
Speaker 3:Oh, my goodness man. But, go ahead. I have a scripture we can't move on from peace without talking about it. No, go ahead, let a scripture we can't move on from peace without talking about it yeah, go ahead. Philippians 4, verse 7. You know he says in the peace of God. Let's put it up on the screen in the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds, through Jesus Christ you know that that whole surpassing understanding.
Speaker 3:Um, you know we guys talk about because you know, philip, you said turmoil like I was going through, like even all this turmoil in my mind you know about making this, but it surpasses my natural understanding. The piece, like when you're, you know someone's on, you know going through a like a near-death experience, you know you're in the hospital or whatever, it surpasses like my natural understanding, like I should be, stressed out, anxious upset, but this talk about that, um, you guys, you know what does that mean to you guys? That? Or do you guys have any testimonies where your peace has passed it past your natural understanding? That's good man.
Speaker 4:Um, I'll tell you what. It's one of those things where, like when, when the squeeze is on, you find out what's in you, you know it's one of those things um, because I've had some been in some hairy situations before and you find out.
Speaker 4:You know, you find out whether or not the word is really in you and whether or not you really believe that word. When, when the squeeze is on, you know what? What's the juice that comes out? In other words, um, but um. Well, I actually right. If you don't mind, I wanted to pull that scripture back up in Philippians 4. Because he talked about in verse 6, he said be careful for nothing, which means don't be anxious for anything.
Speaker 1:Right.
Speaker 4:But in everything, in everything, in everything, by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. So I think one of the biggest steps off the bat is when you're facing a situation, you got to give that thing to God right away. Don't feel like you got to go through that thing alone, don't feel like you're bothering God if you bring it to him. He's seen a million situations just like yours and he knows how to handle it, I promise you. And there's that scripture, obviously, in 1 Peter 5, 7, where it says casting all your care on God, for he cares for you. And then there's the one in Psalm 55, where it says cast your burden on the Lord and he'll sustain you. Those things kind of all tie together to this. I think it's kind of in the same spirit as those things. And then he says the result of you giving that thing to God, the result of you bringing your request to him with prayer, with thanksgiving, verse seven happens as a result. It says the peace of God, which passes understanding. Look what it does. It says it'll keep your heart and mind, which means it's going to guard your heart, it's going to guard your mind. So there's, if you can imagine it. There's like a barrier of peace surrounding your heart and mind to keep those anxious thoughts, those troublesome thoughts, from taking over. You know deep down.
Speaker 4:God's got this thing. I've given it to him. I've prayed to him about it. He knows what I'm dealing with. He's not caught by surprise with anything I deal with in this life. So I trust that he'll bring me through exactly as I need to be brought through this thing and when it all is said and done, the dust settles, I'll come out on top because, because he is with me, he is for me, and if he's for me, who can be against me? You know Right, you have to have that in your mind that I trust God and I know he's going to take me, he's going to bring me through this and I will come out on top, praise God.
Speaker 1:I'd just like to say and it's off the subject say it's off the subject, but it's on the subject. There's a Jewish guy that I catch on YouTube from time to time. His name is Beryl Solomon, and one of the things he was talking about the other day was generally just being positive and recognizing the reality. That you know, he says he literally walks around and reminds himself you know what god's for me, so this is going to work out for me. Things are somehow, and he makes sure that he keeps the positivity flowing, and one of the things I just want to point out about that scripture is that's a great scripture if you're anxious.
Speaker 2:Yes.
Speaker 1:Because that same Irenae, which means peace, is the same RNA from Galatians, chapter 5. That's right, right? Yes, sir, regardless of what I am anxious for or concerning or what I'm anxious about, if I will bring that anxiety to God, he will settle me, praise God. He will bring me to a place of peace. He'll use his peace working in me and see, that's the power of being born again. Because now these things are in you and so now God is drawing out of you what's in you and peace is in you, despite your situation and circumstance. And I just think it's a beautiful thing to remember that, because God has given you this peace, that you can be positive about the things going on in your world and deal with less anxiety. Yes, that's going on, because you know God's working things together for your good, that he gives you the peace that passes all understanding, that keeps your heart and mind through Christ Jesus, that the things that I'm working on today are going to bear fruit for me tomorrow.
Speaker 1:And the things that I worked on yesterday are bearing fruit for me today in some way, shape or form, and God is good. God is good to me, god's good to my family, he's good to my extended family. He's good to my friends and loved ones. He helps them to see himself in the situations and circumstances they're in and he draws nearer and nearer to them because they draw nearer and nearer to him and you just keep working on being positive and allow more good things to work out in your life. I know that the gospel isn't all roses, that the gospel isn't all roses. I'm very aware of that, but I don't believe it's all tragedy either.
Speaker 1:Amen to that, and I believe that God intends for those who love him to have a good life. Even though there are times that you might go through persecution, you may go through hard things, people pass and die, situations come up with your health and other areas, I still believe God is good and he wants to be good for you, and that's the way that you should work it out in your life as well, and keep the positivity flowing so that you always have that thing to draw from in your life.
Speaker 4:Yes, sir, good stuff, David.
Speaker 1:Bill, I think we put a bookmark on it right here. I know we literally got through one thing tonight. I think it also helps us capstone love, joy and peace as a triad, a triplet, if you would there we go. Let that thing settle in as it should. Any final thoughts for you, Philip.
Speaker 4:Man, I would just recommend guys go to your Bible, get your concordance. Look up that word peace. There's so many great scriptures in the Old and New Testament where it talks about peace and and God is big on peace. Um, you'll find that out the more you you dig into the word. It's it even in first Corinthians I think it's first Corinthians seven it says God has called us to peace. So it's actually a calling we have to to to walk in that peace, and that's nothing to take lightly, man.
Speaker 4:So I recommend definitely getting the scriptures out, studying peace, studying what it can do, what, what the conditions of peace bring to you. It's, it's a beautiful thing and and it's it's not only something that's just you know, flowery, wonderful puppies and rainbows, feelings or anything like that. It's also a stability that you get, like it says in Psalms. It says they that trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion that can't be moved. You have that peace that keeps you stable. There's all kinds of dimensions to it. So anyway, I encourage everyone to study that word in the Old and New Testament for sure.
Speaker 1:Let's pray for everybody's peace tonight.
Speaker 4:Yes, sir, praise God. Heavenly Father, thank you for being the God of peace. You called yourself the God of peace. You said that you've reconciled us to yourself through Jesus, and that has brought peace between us and you. And we know that he is the one mediator between you and mankind. It is Jesus, and we just give you praise for your son and for the peace that he brought through his blood. You said that he made peace through the blood of his cross and we thank you for that, father.
Speaker 4:And we pray right now for everybody listening, whatever situation they're dealing with, whatever anxieties they have, worries, concerns, fears, whatever they're dealing with financially, physically, health-wise, family relationships. We pray, father, that your peace would flood those situations, that you would not only give them that peace that passes understanding, but you would give them the wisdom they need to get through those situations and to come out on top. Father, we thank you for that. We thank you that your peace that passes understanding guards their minds, guards their hearts. Your peace is a fortress around their thought life and we give you praise for that, father. And we thank you for your help, for being an ever-present help in any time of trouble. Or need we give you praise for those things In Jesus' name we pray, amen.
Speaker 1:Amen. We're so glad you guys have joined us. We hope that you've been inspired. We hope that you've learned something, that you're taking something away, that you've got something extra to go and study with this week as you dig in. But do dig into this word. It's so good and it will absolutely change your life.
